Denture Relines

The perfect fit

As time goes by, the shape of your mouth and gums will change naturally. This can mean that over time, your dentures won't fit you the way they should. By adapting your dentures to fit with the unique and changing characteristics of your mouth, we will ensure that your dentures continue to offer you the best fit and feel.

Changing Faces® hard reline

A hard denture reline will improve the fit and stability of your dentures. Please note that you will be without your denture whilst the new base is positioned.

The following steps are used -

  1. Remove some of the plastic from the inside your denture
  2. Place a layer of soft impression material onto this trimmed surface
  3. Repositioning inside your mouth to take an impression of the unique contours of your mouth
  4. Using this accurate impression to create a new hard base

Changing Faces® soft reline

If you suffer with tender gums and sore spots, denture relining can help your dentures be kinder to your mouth. This is often the case for people who have a very flat lower ridge, which means that the retention of the lower denture is very poor. By adapting your denture with a material that remains soft and pliable (denture cushion), we can make your dentures much more comfortable to wear.

Please note that you will be without your denture whilst the new base is positioned. Every year or two the soft material will need to be replaced.

The following steps are used -

  1. Remove some of the plastic from the inside your denture
  2. Place a layer of soft impression material onto this trimmed surface
  3. Repositioning inside your mouth to take an impression of the unique contours of your mouth
  4. Use this accurate impression to create a new soft base

Changing Faces® temporary/therapeutic relines

A temporary/therapeutic denture reline is suitable for people who are awaiting a hard reline or new dentures but their gums need time to settle and heal. This is especially the case for patients who have been wearing dentures that are very old and ill-fitting, because this can damage the gums causing them to be sore, swollen and misshapen. The good news is, we can carry out a temporary denture reline directly in any one of the Changing Faces® Clinics, so you won't need to be without your dentures.

The following steps are used -

  1. A temporary soft reline material is added to the surface of your dentures directly in the clinic
  2. This conditioning material allows the inflammation to subside
  3. You wear your dentures with their new soft base for a few weeks until the gums return to a normal and healthy state
  4. This temporary soft reline also makes your denture grip much more tightly
  5. When the time is right the soft material is replaced with a new hard base, or your treatment for replacement dentures can begin
