Dental Implant Care

Helping your gums heal

Your Changing Faces dental implantologist will provide helpful advice on how to care for your implants after surgery, and in a way that promotes the healing of your mouth. They will also guide you on the best way to care for your implants after the healing period, to ensure longevity. It will take a little time to develop a good daily oral hygiene regime. Once you have this, you can help to ensure the long-term success of your dental implants.

Developing a daily routine

Cleaning around your implants on a daily basis is crucial to your oral health and the longevity of your dental implants. Bacteria that occurs naturally in your mouth can kept in check with your daily oral hygiene routine. If you do not clean around your implants regularly, inflammation of the gums can occur which could eventually lead to loss of one or all of your implants. This is why it is important that you develop a daily routine for cleaning around the head of your dentures implants.

Having dental implants means that you may experience difficultly in cleaning certain areas of your mouth with normal toothpaste. That is why we advise flossing and using small inter-dental toothbrushes in any hard to reach areas. Much like your natural teeth, dental implants will last as long as you can keep them clean. Plaque around dental implants will lead to gum infections, bleeding and soreness just like it would do around natural teeth.

Keeping your dental implants and gums healthy

Changing Faces recommends a product called Cervitec Gel which contains Chlorhexidine. This is a tried and tested substance which has been used for many years to reduce harmful bacteria. Chlorhexidine helps tissue recover from its inflammation. It also reduces the bacterial growth (plaque) around your dental implants. Like toothpaste, Cervitec Gel also contains fluoride, which is clinically proven to strengthen teeth and protect from tooth decay. Use the gel to brush around your individual dental implants and any natural teeth in the evenings.

Regular check ups

Only a dentist or appropriately trained dental professional can offer advice on your dental implant care. See your dentist every six months to check your dental implants or natural teeth. Keep more frequent appointments if this is the advice you receive.

Treated by your own denture expert

If you are experiencing total tooth loss, the good news is you can visit one of the Changing Faces® Denture Clinics directly without having to first see a dentist. Your dentures will be designed and fitted by the clinical dental technician who also provides your treatment.
