“I was told I wouldn’t be able to wear dentures”

When I had a motor vehicle accident back in 1963, most of my teeth were knocked out. I lost a lot of my gums and jawbone too. I had to have all my remaining teeth removed and my gums stitched. My doctors said I couldn’t have dentures straightaway because my gums needed to heal. Once they had healed, I was told that because there wasn’t much of my gum remaining so I wouldn’t be able to wear dentures. My doctors said they could build up my jaw, using bone from another part of my body. At the time, I really didn’t want to go through this procedure. Over the years, I’ve regretted that decision.

“It would take an expert to help me”

Since then, I have tried quite a few different dentures but none were that good. I wore my last pair of dentures for seven and a half years. Even though my dentures tilted on one side, the teeth were really worn and they were bad for eating, I just didn’t want to go through the trouble of getting them replaced. Partly, this was because four years ago I suffered a brain aneurism and I’ve been recovering ever since. Sometimes I wasn’t even eating so the dentures didn’t matter. When I finally decided it was time for a new pair, I went to see my dentist and she said it would take an expert to help me, because of the small amount jawbone I had left – that’s when she referred me to Changing Faces.

Since I started wearing my Changing Faces dentures, people say I look so well in the face. But they don’t know about my new dentures! Now I don’t even need to wear denture adhesive. My teeth look much more natural and I can eat most things without any problems. My dentures don’t affect my speech and they’ve certainly made my face much nicer!
